Female Scientists from the Medical University of Lodz Among the TOP 100 Women in Biotech in Poland

We are proud to announce that representatives of the Medical University of Lodz (MUL) have been nominated for the prestigious TOP 100 Women in Biotech in Poland list, announced as part of the Perspektywy Women in Tech Summit 2026 – the largest event for women in technology in Europe.

We are particularly pleased that the honorees include doctoral students and an alumna of the UMED doctoral schools.

The recognized women include:

  • Prof. Ewa Balcerczak – Head of the Department of Laboratory and Molecular Diagnostics at MUL, Rector’s Plenipotentiary for Postgraduate Education,
  • Dr. hab. Karolina Kowalska from the Department of Cell Cultures and Genomic Analysis at MUL,
  • Dr. Żaneta Kałuzińska-Kołat from the Department of Functional Genomics at MUL (IDS alumna),
  • Weronika Kruczkowska, MSc – IDS doctoral student in the Department of Functional Genomics,
  • Katarzyna Płoszka, MSc – SMM doctoral student in the Department of Biostatistics and Translational Medicine at MUL.

The TOP 100 Women in Biotech program aims to recognize outstanding women working in the field of biotechnology—scientists, leaders, innovators, and educators who have a real impact on the development of science and the biotech sector in Poland and worldwide. The initiative also promotes female role models in traditionally male-dominated fields and inspires young generations to pursue careers in science and new technologies.

The culmination of the program will be the announcement of the TOP 10 Women in Biotech in Poland list, which will be decided by a competition jury led by representatives of the scientific and business communities. The winners will be announced during a gala on June 10–11, 2026, in Warsaw, during the Perspektywy Women in Tech Summit.

The presence of our university’s representatives in this prestigious ranking confirms the growing role of our institution in the development of modern biotechnology and our significant contribution to shaping the future of science and innovation.
