First-year IDS PhD student is the first author of a scientific publication in Redox Biology

MSc Natalia Chrzan, a first-year PhD student of the International Doctoral School preparing a doctoral thesis in the Department of Molecular Biology of Cancer at the Medical University of Lodz under the supervision of Mariusz Hartman PhD DSc, the first author of a review paper published in Redox Biology (Impact Factor 10.7 and 140 MNiSW points).

The publication title is: “Copper in melanoma: At the crossroad of protumorigenic and anticancer roles” (https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2213231725000655). In this review paper, she focused on the role of copper ions in melanoma cells and the potential use of compounds chelating or introducing copper ions into these cells.

The PhD student’s scientific work focuses on cuproptosis – a recently described type of cell death. The aim of the doctoral thesis is to investigate the relationship between the sensitivity of melanoma cells to cuproptosis-inducing agents and their metabolic phenotype, both drug-naïve and modified by molecularly targeted drugs, in the short term and after the development of resistance.

Congratulations and we wish you continued success!
