First-year IDS PhD student is the first author of a scientific publication in Molecular Cancer (IF = 27.7)

MSc Piotr Wawrzyniak, a first-year PhD student of the International Doctoral School preparing a doctoral thesis in the Department of Molecular Biology of Cancer at the Medical University of Lodz under the supervision of Mariusz Hartman PhD DSc Assoc. Prof., the first author of a review paper published in Molecular Cancer (Impact Factor 27,7 and 140 MNiSW points).

The publication title is: “Dual role of interferon-gamma in the response of melanoma patients to immunotherapy with immune checkpoint inhibitors”
(https://molecular-cancer.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s12943-025-02294-x). In this review paper, the authors described the molecular mechanisms of interferon-gamma in melanoma cells and its positive and negative impact on the response of melanoma patients to therapy with immune checkpoint inhibitors.

The PhD student’s scientific work focuses on the role of interferon-gamma as a component of the tumor microenvironment. The aim of the doctoral thesis is to investigate the response of melanoma cells to both short-term and long-term exposure to interferon-gamma, and assess whether the interferon-gamma-induced phenotypic changes may increase the susceptibility of melanoma cells to various types of cell death.

Congratulations and we wish you continued success!
