Announcement of a contest for co-financing of international research trips Nawa Ster

The head of the project entitled “Internationalisation Empowerment of Doctoral School at the Medical University of Lodz (InterEmpowereD) Prof. Anna Woźniacka announces a contest for co-financing of international research trips, lasting from 1 to 10 months, from Nawa Ster funds within the framework of Task 3 “Support of foreign mobility for the best doctoral students from Poland and abroad, receiving education at the doctoral school”.

Conditions for awarding the co-financing grant

An international research trip may be co-financed on condition the doctoral student fulfils all of the following requirements:

  1. receives his/her education at the International Doctoral School;
  2. plans the trip within the framework of scientific cooperation with a foreign scientific institution;
  3. cooperates with a supervisor employed at a foreign scientific institution, appointed by the Director of the International Doctoral School;
  4. pursues a doctoral project in international cooperation and aims at obtaining a joint or double degree – on the basis of an agreement confirming the cooperation between the Medical University of Lodz and a foreign scientific institution.

Procedure for awarding the co-financing grant

  1. The doctoral student is required to submit an application for a co-financing grant to the Office of Doctoral Studies Centre within 30 days of the contest announcement on the website of the International Doctoral School, i.e. by 23 rd August 2023. The template of the application form constitutes Annex no.1 to the Rules and Regulations.
  2. The doctoral student shall annex to the application:
  1. detailed plan for the trip, specifying the purpose and programme of the research and expected benefits. The template of the detailed plan is included in Annex no. 2 to the Rules and Regulations,
  2. Curriculum Vitae of a supervisor employed in a foreign scientific institution and his/her agreement to take the doctoral student under his/her scientific supervision (printable agreement and appointment of the supervisor),
  3. description of the doctoral student’s scientific achievements,
  4. a statement on processing of personal data in connection with the implementation of the Project, together with an additional consent to the processing of personal data – relevant templates are available on the website of the International Doctoral School.
  1. Results of the contest will be made public within 14 days after the application deadline, i.e. by 06th September 2023.
  2. Applications shall be evaluated by the STER Programme Committee.
  3. Committee members shall not evaluate the applications of doctoral students for whom they are supervisors.
  4. Applications submitted after the deadline or those that do not meet formal requirements shall not be considered.
  5. Having evaluated the submitted applications, the Committee prepares a ranking list of doctoral students and awards grants for financial research trips to the doctoral students who obtained the highest number of points, within the pool of financial resources, allocated for this purpose in a given academic year. The decisions of the Committee shall be final.
  6. Results of the contest shall be placed on the website of the International Doctoral School.

Evaluation criteria:

  1. The Commission evaluates applications for co-financing of the trip by examining:
    1. a detailed plan of the trip and the rank of the hosting institution (the University’s position in the current Shanghai Ranking);
    2. the doctoral student’s academic achievements obtained in international cooperation, including participation in international projects.
  2. The following activities are given preference:
    1. academic achievements of the candidates, obtained between the beginning of their education at the International Doctoral School and the date of the submission of the application for a co-financing grant:
      1. scientific articles, as indicated in the doctoral student’s annual report, published or accepted for publication in a scientific journal with the Impact Factor (IF) citation index, included in the list of journals in the Journal Citation Reports (JCR) database, in which the doctoral student is:
        • the first author – 5 points for an article,
        • a co-author – 3 points for an article.
      2. previous trips related to preparation of the doctoral dissertation, lasting longer than 14 days (the country, city, length of stay, purpose of the trip) – 4 points for a trip,
      3. active participation in international conferences, symposia, scientific congresses:
        • for an oral presentation of a scientific paper – 2 points (not more than 3 papers),
        • for a presentation in the form of a poster – 1 point (not more than 2 posters),
      4. participation in international research projects – 5 points for a project.
    2. A detailed plan of the trip (subject to evaluation: the aim and the research programme, expected benefits for the doctoral student and the University, the rank of the hosting institution, i.e. the current position in the Shanghai Ranking) – up to 20 points.
