Pharmaceutical Sciences

The International Doctoral School offers studies in medical sciences, health sciences and pharmaceutical sciences in accordance with the field and discipline that Medical University of Lodz is authorised to award PhD and habilitated PhD degrees.

The topics of doctoral dissertations prepared at the Faculty of Pharmacy involve multidisciplinary subjects linked to broadly understood pharmacy including design and synthesis of new substances, analysis of their biological activity, drug analysis which includes stability and transformations of pharmaceutical formulations, their bioavailability and side effects. Moreover, research in the field of pharmacology, toxicology, food sciences, biotechnology, biochemistry and molecular biology is also conducted at the Faculty. Doctoral dissertations also concern products of plant origin, identification and analysis of their active substances and biological activity.

The International Doctoral School graduates in pharmaceutical sciences have advanced theoretical and practical knowledge of the methods (studies in vivo and in vitro, pharmacological models, receptor analyses, ADME methodology) and analytical techniques (chromatography, spectroscopy, spectrometry and molecular biology) which are used both in scientific laboratories and in pharmaceutical industry. Our Doctoral School graduates are also qualified to skillfully plan and conduct experimental research, formulate research hypotheses and interpret the study results, to begin with the design of chemical compounds with biological activity and mechanisms of expected function and finishing with drug analysis, formulation and fate in human body.

Our students learn to exploit the world scientific literature and they acquire competence how to design and conduct research, analyse the obtained results, write scientific papers for publication and collaborate in research teams implementing projects within the field of pharmaceutical sciences. The graduates can also boast a wide knowledge and high competence of academic teachers in the discipline of pharmaceutical sciences. Furthermore, they are well-prepared to continue their work as researchers as well as recognized employees in pharmaceutical industry, drug control or research and development laboratories.
